As 2011 comes to an end, BMW Motorrad would like to send you off with some news from the past year and a look forward to a feature packed 2012.

BMW Motorrad Australia is proud to claim the title of Australian Superbike champion for 2011 with Glenn Allerton piloting the Procon Maxima BMW S 1000 RR to a maiden ASBK win for BMW. Allerton is no stranger with the title of ASBK Champion, but for BMW Motorrad, claiming the title in their first attempt with their new production superbike is the culmination of a dream season.

Next year will see a number of new BMW machines grace the showroom floor in 2012; G 650 GS Sertao, updated S 1000 RR, R 1200 GS Rallye, K 1300 S HP as well as some class leading scooters.

Early 2012 includes a number of events all fighting for your attendance. Be a VIP at Phillip Island World Superbike round, get along to the Ulysses AGM at Mildura or book yourself a spot in the 2012 BMW TS Safari. You’re bound to find an event to suit your taste.

Enjoy the festive season and stay safe out on the roads.

If you attended the Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne there was a good chance you were amongst the lucky ones that got to see the unveiling of the new 6-cylinder K 1600 GTL. What’s more, we were treated to a live example of modern motorcycle design by David Robb, the Vice President of Design for BMW Motorrad. It was fascinating to watch how some well placed lines on a blank sheet of paper can evoke life, movement and style.

We’ve got great news for Aussie GS riders this month with the announcement of the next GS Safari. The BMW Safari’s are unique events catering specifically to riders of BMW motorcycles with two flavours – GS and TS. The 2011 GS route has already had an initial pre-run and it’s shaping up to be a cracker of a ride. Safari participants will experience a wide variety of terrain and scenery as only an Australian adventure ride can deliver. Be sure to register on the Safari site so you are kept updated.

Let’s rip into another edition of BMW Rider.

We've got more content in this issue of Rider than you could fit in a GS pannier box!

While much of southern Australia is bracing itself against one of the wettest and wildest winters for many years, many hard core riders can see through the mist that the spring riding season is just around the corner. The promise of dry roads, cool but sunny days and fresh growth sprouting up along the road edge is enough to get riders out in the garage to give their machines some love and attention.

If you are a GS rider then we’ve got the perfect excuse to see some wildflowers in the Victorian High Country. The annual Snowy Ride is on again in November and the GS Adventure Ride has to be the ideal way of making your way to this event and enjoying it to the max. The atmosphere around Thredbo for the Snowy Ride is great with a real mix of bikes and riders adding to the brew. Get in on it!

If you are a hard core off-road rider then no doubt you’ll be tuning into the box for a couple of weeks after New Years Eve when the Dakar Rally raids South America again. If you’re a hard-core BMW off-road rider then you’ve now got even more reason to stay glued to the box with a pair of BMW G 450 X prepped by speedbrain taking on the Dakar in a factory effort.

Some say the motorcycle market is down at the moment but try telling that to the BMW S 1000 RR. This brute of a superbike is causing grief to the established sports bikes on the market. On the race track, the story is the same with the outright grunt of the S 1000 RR proving a formidable force. Read the test reports and race results and you'll see the verdict is unanimous - the S 1000 RR is the new SuperBike.

As this month’s edition of BMW Rider does the rounds, there is also a pre production S 1000 RR doing the rounds of Australian BMW dealers and selected major motorcycle events. Pricing of the “RR” has been announced and it is very competitive against the existing Japanese brands, even with quick-shift as standard equipment. BMW Motorrad was stoked when it recently claimed an Australian Off Road Championship title in the Expert Class with a G 450 X in the hands of Luke Tomlinson. It's great to see our local riders backing up the sensational results being acheived in the World Enduro Championships.
